Some of our members have enormous logbooks — tens of thousands of QSOs, and in a few cases, hundreds of thousands. It is one of my favorite things about this community. But as those records grew, the mobile app’s first load started to feel the weight, and a first impression that takes too long is not the logbook-in-your-pocket experience I want anyone to have.
So we went under the hood and rebuilt the mobile data engine. The change is simple to describe and was hard to do well: the first download is now dramatically faster — we bulk-load your whole record up front instead of trickling it in — and once it is there, the app just stays current in the background, syncing only what changed. Open it, and your whole operating history is there, fast, no matter how much you have worked.
I want to thank the members who made this possible. We worked directly with the folks who have the biggest logbooks in DxQSO — their real-world pain is what found the bottlenecks, and their patience is what tested the fixes. This is what it looks like when “built with you, for you” is not a slogan.
One more thing, for the handful of you who actually read release notes all the way to the bottom: there is a small easter egg tucked into this build — a little bonus for the curious. I will not say what it is or where to look. But if you find it — or you just have a hunch it is there — mention this post to me, N1EZ, and I will make it worth your while. 73.
